Always going to have to make the call for a run a day or so before, for sure. Unless we live in Arizona.
Hoping it pans out mate cos I'm itching for the blat and it'll be good to say boo.

100+ MR2OCNZ runs and counting... When going hard, good rubber's your best protection against unwanted accidents. Buy good tyres!
When you're nearing the end of the drag-strip and you have no 'chute, you may as well keep your foot to the floor... Live life. There ain't no second pass.

I used to do this when I was an organiser for a motorbike group. It worked well. The turn out wasn't any less than for a pre-determined date.mickeyduck wrote: I can see the day coming when we'll be operating in "scramble" mode, taking advantage of any fine weekend that comes our way...

Could we just operate in scramble mode constantly? I don't really care where we go as long as it's not constantly straight for more than 1km

Re: AKL - Waikato - BOP run Sunday 4th February
In most sports its called a Rain date. Id love to have a life where I could operate in scramble mode but unfortunately there are some constraints. If im at my bolthole at Pakiri or planned to go there its a hassle but I think we all work round it. If I know we don't have a run on I normally plan to go to Pakiri or work or do something else
So really I guess its like a race meeting scheduled for XXX date and if it doesn't happen its held on a raindate which has previously been nominated.
There is another thing I suppose but I daren't suggest it.......................... we could drive in the wet and just be careful!!!
It really depends on the purpose of the run. If its to drive balls out through twisties then this isnt a decent suggestion
If however the purpose of the run is to go to a specific destination and socialise then the fast twisties are an added bonus. Rocket run is like this . Sure the run is fun but the big bonus is the Rockets and the socialising.
I guess the second type of activity should be called a cruise and for some its what they want or are happy with.
If you can combine all 3 then this is a bonus.
For me if the run is cancelled on the 4th then I will miss it the next weekend as that's the Concours at Ellerslie where I am involved and we will have a club stand.
Still I guess we cant please everyone and BTW I love runs!!!!

Re: AKL - Waikato - BOP run Sunday 4th February
Thanks for your thoughts guys.
I think we should always set an intended date for a run so people can plan for it, but if it gets rained off then we should go into "scramble mode" and just do it the next fine Sunday.
The problem with a "rain date" is that it's a pre-determined alternative day. And it might be raining on that day too.
Anyway I'm happy to report my speedo has been behaving since I reversed a few metres before leaving Waipu. It must make it twist right up into the speedometer...
Going to try to paint one end of the house this weekend seeing as the weather is utterly mint.
Make like the Road Runner fellas and stay tooned cos we'll just have to see whether the weather be fine or whether the weather be not...
The roads to Tauranga are WAY too good to crawl along in the wet Mike!
Even the straight bits can be seriously twisted, eh Michael? Just in a vertical manner instead of a horizontal one...

Re: AKL - Waikato - BOP run Sunday 4th February
Sunday is still looking pretty good weather wise. looks like a little rain around AKL but clear in the BOP. So I'm all set on my end.
After the BBQ for those who want, I have arranged a visit to Megasquirt NZ to see my car which is not quite running but also a chance to talk to Jared who is a MX5, MR2,MRS guru.
He is a wealth of knowledge about our vehicles especially those who have a modification bent. But his overall knowledge is comprehensive. Its also quite a good run up to his place, a few twisties. I suspect we will head up to his workshop about 2:30 pm ish from the Omokoroa Domain, being up at the Megasquirt workshop around 3 pm ish.
So for the BBQ, Omokoroa Domain, Omokoroa. Starting 12 -12:30pm. THIS SUNDAY
Cheers Ross

Re: AKL - Waikato - BOP run Sunday 4th February
Hmmm... Nice idea Ross.
Looking a bit damp for the last half of the trip home from the BOP tomorrow.
And the weather can always shift a little, for better or for worse...
My son's birthday is next weekend so I can't do it then.
Who else is into doing this run tomorrow, even if it's raining for half the trip home?

Re: AKL - Waikato - BOP run Sunday 4th February
Looking good enough for me, So I'll be cranking up the BBQ at Lunchtime.
Look for the Blue Gazebo.
Hoping people will make the effort to come along. The Megasquirt visit will also be well worth well. They are at the end of Mclaren Falls road, so once finished back on the statehighway 29 down the Kaimias and into Matamata for the Auckland boys and on their way home.
Cheers Ross

Yeah I'm of a mind to just do this too. It's certainly fining up at the moment. And them back roads would surely be a high point of the weekend...

Even more gutted I can't make it now. Megasquirt visit would be awesome!
And weather on Waiheke is shit anyway
I see the weather is mint at Leadfoot. So probably fine at/near Tauranga.

I'm gonna have to miss this one. After last run seeing some small patchy rain on the forecast and it turning into pretty consistent wetness on the actual day, I'm definitely not taking the car out with forecasts looking like that. Hope you guys have a blast, but I'll sit this one out.

Fair enough Cai.
The forecast shows the weather drifting north so it looks like being a better day than expected...
