Wairarapa Run to Castlepoint / Matakona March 18th

Post by Gaz007 »

Just checking the tides and and Sunday 18th has low tide at 1.02pm at Matakona for the annual rock search for sea creatures :D
Meeting at the Village grinder cafe (Masterton opposite Pack n Save) at 10.30am, leaving for Castlepoint 10.50ish, via Whareama / Riversdale road and heading to the Whakataki pub for lunch, then just a short drive to Matakona with 200 metres of rock pools for the search, best points for the most weird or amazing creature (must be alive, can't be taken home, girlfriends not included :D )
All roads twisty, free flowing and shouldn't be any cyclists!!!!!, there may be a tractor as we are in the Wairarapa
cheers Gary 8)

Sue and I will be there.
I am planning to join up with the Wellington group at the usual place for the trip over but return via Pahiatua Track.
That is if there are not a large number of Manawatu cars who don't wish to do the loop through the Rimutakas.
Let me know if you want to join us.

That means Sue and I will have to leave Otaki by 8:00 to ensure we meet up at the info sign.
Since we are taking the MR-s to the AGM we will have to bring Sues car. For those who might be joining us we will be leaving the Otaki Rail at 8:00. Just look for our other silver convertible.

And the good news is it's going to be fine and about 20 deg, light winds, scattered cyclists in town but should be good in the country :D
Bring shoes suitable for rocks if you are going sea creature hunting and maybe a container to hold it in .....
See you all tomorrow :)
Cheers Gary 8)

A good turn out with a range of cars from AW11, SW20, MRs, Porsche, Mercedes 230 and Peugeot covertable. No cyclists, only one tractor and it was parked on the side of the road and very light traffic. Stopped at the Whareama church, Whakataki Hotel for lunch and found lots of sea life at Matikona, then on to Castlepoint and a twisty fast trip home
