So who is actually going from Auckland?

It looks to me like it's Mike, Ivan and myself. Is that it?

Or has everyone naffed off to some new Facebook page? Other than the Club's "official" one that's been around for years? :?

I've sussed out a fun way to get to this event and an equally fun (and different) way to get back.

Going out to the shed to sort the SW... See whoever is coming at BP SH1 Drury 9am tomorrow.

Oh and if the m-way is poo tomorrow as it has been the last couple of days...

Heading south from Auckland...

Off at Redoubt Rd
L into Old Wairoa
R into Brightwell
L into Clevedon
R into Dominion
R into Settlement
Straight ahead to M-way, head south
Off at BP

I'm heading down via SH22 and will come back via Lake Waikare. Twisties!

So great to see everyone come down for the event today, i did my best in rounding up some Hamilton MR2s to come along for the ride. I dont think ive ever seen so many MR2s in hamilton at once! I hope everyone had a safe drive and a great day. Heres just a few of the photos i took and some of the photos i have found. I think i counted around 13 MR2s all up? Heres to the next event!

Ha ha you guys have done an awesome job of photoshopping Mike's MRS and my SW out of all those pics...!

Here's a few pics off my camera. Just to prove we were there too. :P

Scenery on the way down. Came over the crest of a hill and just had to stop to take this pic.
DSC_3870.JPG
One of our number came over the rise a bit quick trying to catch up, saw us there and tried to stop. Didn't quite work. Thankfully nobody was hurt but hey like I said before the run don't out-drive your car. No need to try to keep up if your tyres aren't up to it (for example) cos I always stop so we can re-group. Just stay at a pace that allows you to stop safely if there's a tractor or horse just around that corner or over the rise.

Admittedly it is all too easy to lock up in an MR2. But like my signature says, buy decent rubber. It helps. A lot.
DSC_3875.JPG
I really didn't get into the groove on the way down. Still trying to get used to the fat feel of an SW as opposed to the agile feel of an AW. That said, I did discover an excellent bit of road from Naike to Huntly. Heatherington Rd. Brilliant. Here we are at the Huntly end of it.
DSC_3882.JPG
Now just to prove Mike and I made it there, here's a shot with my SW in it...
DSC_3893.JPG
And here's one with Mike's MRS.

OK, a few other pics for yas. Not all MR2's but hey we weren't the only ones there, right?

In my estimation if these guys are out to create an event to rival the 4's n Rotas they have a long way to go. That said, the degree of bling-prep availed by being inside, and the use of a drag strip or car park for competition, isn't what you can do on a public reserve. Good on them for pulling in as many cars as they did. It was a good day.

Thomas accompanied me north as far as the top of Lake Waikare (cheers mate!) the rest of the Aucklanders deciding to cruise sedately up the motorway instead of following me through the back roads. I hope they had a good time driving down to the show as well as going home? Apart from the first stretch of newly resealed SH 22 the roads were great, the weather was brilliant and the company was top notch as always.

Next time. 8)

Good fun as always Charlie, great road that one.

Good to meet new faces from Hamilton. I thought it was a really great event. Not big by any means but a nice collection of cars, people and some food/coffee. Hopefully they do it again.
