I presume this is suitable for track noobs as well as seasoned veterans? I have only done a couple of laps in a non-mr2 before.

Re: MR2OCNZ 25th Anniversary-Nationals 23rd Nov 2019
Hey guys
The track sessions are controlled and let you go as fast or as slow as you want. Ideal for Noobs and anyway every racer was a noob onc. In all my life I have only ever seen 3 guys with natural talent all the others have to practice . Its about seat time !!
The drag racing is great for Noobs and pretty harmless and Gymkhana is great for all grades of experience so id say
YOU IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for drinking socialising hanging round talking, just generally hanging out no experience necessary
Welcome to the NAtionals

What he said. My first track day was on Manfield and I didn't bin it using that exact method. Although a 1:37 isn't very fast and when an AE101 FXGT with 3 people in it can gap you on the straights you gotta think a GEN4 swap is kinda needed...

It's also a lot cheaper (tyres and brake pads and gas) and a lot more fun as then it's more about carrying speed through the corners. Rather than lead-footedness and heavy braking.
To my thinking an MR2 is great like that. Just the right amount of power to balance the car through corners, so you can really push it with little risk of over-cooking it and falling off. My 86 is the same. Not fast in a straight line but on a twisty road you can run rings around most things. Requires a feel for the balance of the car, which makes for very rewarding driving experiences.

100+ MR2OCNZ runs and counting... When going hard, good rubber's your best protection against unwanted accidents. Buy good tyres!
When you're nearing the end of the drag-strip and you have no 'chute, you may as well keep your foot to the floor... Live life. There ain't no second pass.

Sounds like a great day so I will be there--I noted that W30 spiders were not allowed on track at Hampton downs due to lack of a sump baffle causing oil starvation.Any problem at Manfield? Cheers Ross

I thought this was a GEN2 3S problem too? Manfield is not so bad for this as the corners are far shorter. I ran my GEN2 3SGE on RE003 along side a GEN2 3SGTE on semi slicks and we had no issues with this. Semi slicks make this problem worse if it is a thing.

Hi Ross
I just fell off my chair laughing. Oh if Mr Quinn cared about our engines... The reason spyders aren't allowed on the track is they have no rollover protection so if they flip,,,, you dead.
The oil starvation problem is well known and applies to all MR2s but particularly SW 20s.

Far as I’m aware the rev3 3sgte doesn’t suffer the same starvation issues due to baffled sump and improved oil system.

You won't have any problems at Manfield if you overfill by about half a litre, and keep an eye on the oil through the day.

Yep that sweeper at Hamptons is evil. Truly is in a league of its own when it comes to killing engines.
Never had or seen a problem with an AW Supercharger though Mike. Their baffling is pretty jolly good.
And I'll 2nd Jim's opinion regards the Gen 3 3SGTE SW motors. SWeet as.
I have however seen several MRS / ZZW30 engines die at Hamptons due to oil starvation.
