Re: Auckland (West) - Shelly Beach run Sunday June 30th
Thanks for a great day out Ivor. Gutted when your car slid sideways mate, but apart from that it was a brilliant day! Re the turbo, I reckon just use bolts and spot-weld them lightly to stop them undoing. And if that is the extent of the issues with your super-quick build, you'll have got off lightly!
I'll post some pics from today up a bit later.
Regards the bodywork - some panel beaters have a tool that tig welds lots of little rods on then pulls at them all until the panel is right back where it should be. Very clever. Hopefully one will be able to do something like that to your car. If I did have to fill it though, I'd be using micro-balloons instead of bondi as it's seriously strong and will never fall out. It's used by boat builders.
I've used it in the past and it's seriously crazy strong stuff. Yet easy to work (sand etc).
https://www.fibreglassshop.co.nz/produc ... fUQAvD_BwE
Epoxy that you mix it with, and some alternative powders to mix into the resin to turn it into a high strength filler, though I use micro-balloons (above) with the Epiglass resin:
https://www.fibreglassshop.co.nz/produc ... fUQAvD_BwE
I have a bit here you can look at if you want to see what I am talking about. I'm just down the road mate, txt me some time and come take a look if you're interested...

Re: Auckland (West) - Shelly Beach run Sunday June 30th
No worries on the trailer, it's just a shame that a zz-turbo took the shed viewing time away from another zz-turbo. Albeit a 1zz away from a 2zz.
Nice roads that I have personally used as testing grounds in the past due to the fact it local to me. (Similar to Paul and Hanua)
Absolutely Charlie, one day when I don't have problematic AW11 race-cars to work on, I'll get Roady McRoadFace on the road. (name is a placeholder, I only ever name cars after driving them.) That will be truly Madaz, maybe even insane??
Ivor, I'm really guttered that, that damage was done. Trailers are meant to prevent damage, not cause a little bit.

Call your road-going AW "Sane".
Then you can climb in, and be "in Sane".
Or perhaps that name should be reserved for the 222D embodiment...

HAHA, 222D is a good story at the moment.. will learn more of it's fate next week. That's likely Dopamine Dispenser 3.mickeyduck wrote: Name sorted.

Roady is more likely to be something like Harle (Harlequin) or similar. But yea, still need to drive it before it's named.

Re: Auckland (West) - Shelly Beach run Sunday June 30th
Went out today to assess the damage to the bodywork... While the damaged area is small it's "nicely" spread across THREE panels...
I did avoid Murphy's Law however, and the fourth panel (the door) is intact

Not no where near as bad as it could've, possibly, been??!!? Glass ½ full...
Not a terribly hard repair, I'd think Ivor.... Is the side/sill skirt actually cracked or did just get pushed out the way with surface damage to paint?

Re: Auckland (West) - Shelly Beach run Sunday June 30th
I had a look at the loose turbo exhaust flange and decided the proper way to fix things would be to at the same time upgrade the turbo intake flange bolts ... so the turbo came off - meaning, half the car had to come off...
Spent a bit of dosh on good quality fasteners:

Re: Auckland (West) - Shelly Beach run Sunday June 30th
Nice home work done there Ivor! They look like the right s__t!! - Plus heat range suitable "Loctite"??? You could use some "needle nose" Vise grips on the unthreaded section on the studs. Just the right amount of tension on the grips can provide phenomenal torque power to set them home & stay home ( this time )
I have 2 pairs of 150mm Vise Grip branded ones if you wish to borrow em. The jaws don't knarl up the studs much at all - if - & ONLY if - you get the locking power just suitable....
How do your valves look, seens as you've now got suitable "viewing windows" exposed!!
Meticulous work, as normal, for you Ivor. Big thumbs up & AWesome to see & SWeet. -
