What is everyone doing for insurance for the track stuff?
Could be quite expensive if something goes wrong, so I just considering options.

I haven't been able to find an insurer who would cover track days so I do track days with an assumption I may end up with a write off at the end of it

We're insured with Swann. As long as it's a "Classic" (old enough, might be 25 years?) and you advise them in advance, they cover you. 8)

AW... yep. ZZW.. probably not old enough yet.

Or you can do what the wealthy do, insure with Prestigio (if they'll have you). They cover Ferraris, Porsches etc... Ka-ching.

Playdays on a race track are safer than driving on the road
everyone is going in the same direction AND want to drive home after a play on the track :-)

You just have to do what the late great Peter Brock said, "Brake on the straight before it's too late!!"

If you try any demon late braking maneuvers, it can very possibly - and easily - end in tears. If you're accelerating through the corner, then you won't have any issues as the weight is all on the right ends of the car.

There are also passing rules in place to prevent issues. Also listen to your car, if it feels different is IS different. Brakes especially.

Swann will only cover if it’s a driver training event with a specified person in charge and non-competitive. The last bit means no racing or timed laps. Must notify them in advance so might pay to check if we meet criteria as wouldn’t want different stories being told.

Looks like wife is on the mend so I can attend the meet. Shot the car into our local performance shop this morning to look at the underside of my turbo to see if an external gate can be fitted. The internal gate isn’t letting enough gas through quick enough to control boost so I’m fighting high pressure spikes. Would really prefer to have it under control for event and hold at least 17psi. Got the next week off to be nursemaid so perfect time to pull turbo out.

Glad you're going to make it Jim. Excellent! 8)

As for Swann, we won't be racing. And it'll be well regulated and run, I'm sure. It's all about getting to know your car in a safe controlled environment. So it fits the criteria perfectly I reckon. Besides I don't think anyone in the Club would put up with someone driving like an aggressive idiot at an event like this. They'd get shamed, if not shunned. MR2's are about finesse as we all know. Not like some drift hack eh. And nobody wants to hurt their pride and joy. Especially when you need to drive it home again...!
