25th Anniversary-Update -Important you need to Read this

Post by MIKEP »

Well. not long to go till we all get to Manfeild to celebrate our 25th Anniversary.

We have 60 cars signed up of those 38 will be doing track time.To break the Australasian record we need 65 cars so that is easily achieved.

When we planned the event and from initial expressions of interest we required 45 cars to do the track package to break even As a result of this the Organisers will have to open entry up to approximately 15 extra cars to offset the costs . We are attempting to contact other Toyota clubs to keep it a Toyota day.

This won't affect us and those cars would run in a seperate group. They won't get a goodie bag ot participate in the Show and shine or Gymkhana and they certainly won't be eligible for any prizes.

So if you know anyone else with an MR2 that's waiting till last minute to enter get them to get their entries in quickly.

Despite reports that i am still I'll just I will be at Manfeild to celebrate with you .I may have to get a driver but I will see you all there

Can't wait see you at :!: :!: :!: :D :D :D :P Manfeild

Refreshing the nitrogen would be a good idea.

Toyo r888 tires fitted and tested on local Mr2 monthly run
gear box and engine oil change to follow should be good to go

To boost numbers I've made a couple inquiries from past club members who own cars but no longer participate in club activities. Hopefully, some will make the track session as this one would be hard to pass up.

Damn shame I'm not taking the AW. I could have rocked up with a set of OEM-style RE-01 185 14's. Huge fun through the corners.

The date stamps on tyres are interesting. (Last 4 digits at the end of the DOT code = week and year of manufacture)

Took a look at mine and was a little surprised. All are older than I had imagined, except for the RE01 which are newer than I'd have thought.

RE01 185 14" mentioned above: 0814 = Feb 2014
RE003 195 15" on my AW = 0315 = Jan 2015
S001 18" on my red SW = 2212 = mid 2012 (near new when bought in Feb 2013)
RE003 17 " on my GT86 = 2616 = mid 2016

I've only signed up for the event recently, but haven't had any kind of confirmation if my payment has been received or I've got a place. Should I have got an email?

I have seen a few posts saying details coming soon but can't find any times of what's on what days, what time it starts etc. I did flick back through all the pages in this post but I could have missed something. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Hi there

We have. A really small staff on the Nationals committee so we are behind with some things. Simonaszakra has been working his butt of doing admin stuff.

We will publish timings and the programme in the next few days but we had to make sure we had everything covered and peer reviewed.

As far as confirmation goes I'll get one of our guys to send out a post with all the sign ups on so you can check if your on there.

Thanks for your understanding

Let's hope we all manage to get to Manfield, Mike...!

And again, well done guys for organising this event. Good work. And good on everyone who has decided to be there too! 8)
Cos an event without attendees is a non-event. :P And there's nothing more crushing if you've busted your butt to organise something for people. So well done, everyone.

Gotta say Mike it'll be great to see that list of entrants. It's been REALLY weird for me not being involved in helping get a thing like this off the ground. Again, good on yas.

Must be said though... Nice placement of the 25 year logo Simon. Playday gets 000 Likes. :P

Will be great to have Gary running things. Knows what he's doing, plenty of experience. And a club member from way back. 8)
Here's a wee bit of memorabilia that's kinda apt, considering the venue and all...
DSCF8723.JPG
Here's another one featuring Rodney's mate Jeff. Looks to me as if he might have the longest running "track record" of using an AW11 in motorsport? Deserves an AWard, methinks. Don't think Jeff with be at the Nationals but I'm pretty sure he and Rodney (Speedhog) will be hooning around in an AW11 on same insane twisty (closed) gravel road that weekend.
DSCF8724.JPG
Here's a snippet I've highlighted from the Club's first ever newsletter, penned by founder Ade Mora in 1994.
Just so there's no doubt about the 25 years thing. A bit of background info here too:
https://mr2.org.nz/the-club/first-ade

Michael (mknz) can you please fix the video on that page mate?
I see the archived newsletters have disappeared too. Some were kinda interesting, would be nice to have them back if that's possible, thanks mate.
DSCF8721.JPG
And the 2nd Club newsletter is pretty funny. I remember discovering the existence of the interweb around then too. It was a strange and mysterious thing, it was. Full of all sorts of interesting ideas, yet the freakiest thing about exploring cyberspace in the early days was that you kinda couldn't see much until you bumped into it. A bit like walking around in a huge city at night during a power cut while carrying a small torch for light. Or a match, more like it. The advent of the search engine definitely made the internet a LOT more user friendly.
DSCF8722.JPG
So yeah the Club has been going 25 years. Thanks Ade (and Steve, and all others who joined in as well). :D

And it's been an "incorporated society" for 20 years. That's how long ago its founders placed its fortunes in the hands of its members. So that the members could ensure that their Club and its Internet presence continued to bring MR2 owners together for good times, and capture and share technical information to help keep our MR2's on the road, for years to come.

May we, the membership always value those two simple founding objectives of our Club. Cos without them this Club simply wouldn't be. Here's to another quarter century guys...!

We will be there entered today, need to give the car a bit of a dust off and a clean :-p

Might not be show and shine really, but certainly up for a track attack.
