Not wanting to put a damper on the record attempt but Keith reckons those numbers were exceeded many years back as to the number of MR2s at a meet!

Haha I. Have been told about the "Tauranga" meet. I have seen an old picture but can count only 59 as the photo doesn't have all the cars in it. Also no one recorded the numbers so I'm treating it as an Urban Legend.

You know the rules " If you don't have a photo it didn't happen"

The Aussies have been keeping records for their last 5 Nationals so I have something to go on.

Toyotafest in Auckland had 43 on its own so the leap to 65 isn't that big.

Here's some figures

approx 1250 MR2s still on my the LTSA system
576 still registered or on hold

There are less of the cars around now and the ownership profile has changed so I'm happy with. 65

Let's embrace it and not rain on the parade

Wifey has approved road trip, on the condition I bring her.
Bit late to enter but bugger but i have anyway it the yellow beast needs to get out of the garage.
Looking at head down Saturday early and staying with family
Name the time for the group photo to prove we can do it better than the bloody Aussie’s and I will be there to bolster numbers , dust and garage grime include.

Might not be show and shine really, but certainly up for a track attack.
Excellent! I look forward to catching up with you guys. (Off the track at least, cos I might not be able to do so on track...)

Gonna be good to see you again Paul...! Was looking at the LTSA roadworks map and thinking about all the pain you used to save us with back road routes, sussing out current condition... Miss having you up here mate. Here's to a ripper weekend!

Hi

I'm not very well known on here (more of a lurker than a poster - and not a lurker often enough). Also, I'm sure there are other people here from the Manawatu as well, but worth noting for anyone bringing an AW11 I have one and a half parts cars and a lot of boxes of assorted other parts - I'm not looking to sell things (never know when I might need a part) but if you hear of someone that has significant issues over the weekend, or needs a spare part to get them running again (or get them home) my parts stash is about 40 mins from the track so come look me up anytime over the weekend (Black AW11 with the plate R4CE) and I can let you know if I can help out.

Cheers

As for Swann, we won't be racing. And it'll be well regulated and run, I'm sure. It's all about getting to know your car in a safe controlled environment. So it fits the criteria perfectly I reckon. Besides I don't think anyone in the Club would put up with someone driving like an aggressive idiot at an event like this. They'd get shamed, if not shunned. MR2's are about finesse as we all know. Not like some drift hack eh. And nobody wants to hurt their pride and joy. Especially when you need to drive it home again...!
Has anyone notified Swann about this event and insuring their car? Just one of the things I have on my to-do list.

I called them this morning. They said they would cover me for cruising sessions if the limit didn't exceed 100km/h but not for full pace track sessions.

I was afraid of that. Not a deal breaker for me but would have been nice to have coverage for the whole day. It’s always surprising how many accidents occur just outside the track ‘entrance’.
