Re show n shine. Unless you need need (racecars etc) pit were aiming to have everyone parked up at the show n shine and yes the $70 package is inclusive of show n shine etc.mickeyduck wrote:Good on you Ivor. AA Plus has saved my bacon on several occasions. Worth every cent!psyguy wrote:I think I'm now ready for the weekend.
I've just joined AA. "AA Plus", to be exact. That membership includes a towing service.
So, yeah, I'm ready
Regards helmets, just remember they have to be a pretty decent fit to work properly in a serious crash. You don't want it to give you a headache but you don't want it moving around either.
Great to hear the track sessions are fully booked out! Good stuff!
Regards Show n Shine, I might park mine up for it if it doesn't interfere with track time too much. Entry is included in the track fee eh? Will we simply register for it on the day / be given a Show n Shine entrant's sticker or something?

Playday look to have sent out mail "Registration will be between 8am and 9am in the documentation room.
Please come to documentation as soon as you arrive.
Bring with you, your drivers license, the attached indemnity form and any passengers (caged cars only) or second drivers."
Have attached it here if it's required or easier - they are bound to have some on site if you don't have a printer, I have got a dozen extra copies if anyone needs them

What an absolutely amazing and stunning day. I am burnt to a crisp this morning, my bad! It was so good to see again, and meet a lot of members for the first time in the flesh. So many darn mr2s! I will do a full write up of the day with photos a bit later, in the mean time, congrats to all winners of the prizes and thanks a ton to all our sponsors + Simon and Mike for organising it.

Hey Guys, I took a bunch of pics during the day and on the return trip, which i have uploaded to google drive which will be linked down below. Feel free to use the pics as you wish, they are all unedited shots, i have the RAW files too if you want to message me and i can email you the RAW file.
Unfortunely I didnt have my Turbo SW on the road but that wasnt gonna stop me from coming down to enjoy the weekend and check out the other twos. It was an awesome weekend, On the way back a few of us bumped into charlie who was planing the trip back to Auckland through the twisties, we joined in through to Taihape and then went our separate ways, it was an interesting experience taking the Aurion on a "club run" as such, it kept up well in the twisties and excelled in the straights with the 3.5ltr 2GR. Such a heavy car and the twisties ment braking hard, eventually the brakes got so hot i was getting the spongy pedal so was forced to slow down the last few 3km. I also had my Dash cam recording the drive, its a long 47mins long, will link below.

Re: MR2 Nationals & MR2ocnz 25th anniversary NOV 23,24 2019
Epic weekend, AWESOME event.
HUGE thanks to Mike P, Simon S, Olaf, Gary Stirling and all involved who put this thing together. It was simply brilliant!
If this is the inaugural National track day then I have to say it better jolly-well happen again next year!
And the year after that, etc...
The reasonably central venue together with the Club helping folk get across the ditch etc must have helped the numbers.
And the track is simply brilliant!
If the next National track day is announced soon (central location, late November, exact date and venue TBC) everyone would have 12 months to ready their MR2 and be there.
Imagine if after 5 years of annual Nationals we managed to gather 5% of the MR2's in the country instead of 1%
I tried to establish an annual national track day back in 2013 by hijacking one of Gary's Playdays at Taupo. We had to get other Toyotas in there to boost the numbers so I suggested to Toyota NZ's PR manager, and to Steve Boyce, their motorsports manager, that an annual national Toyota track day would be cool. I was hoping Toyota's backing would gain us an annual track day. Which it did in a way. The new 86 had just been released so Toyota got right behind the idea and the Toyota Festival was born. It's now the biggest event of its kind in the country. And we MR2 bods still love going every year.
This "MR2 Nationals" on the other hand could easily grow to be all MR2. The trick will simply be to announce the next one very soon and give people an entire year to prepare their cars and to budget for the trip. And to ensure it doesn't tussle with Toyotafest.
Late November seems like a great choice of time. And Manfield was simply AWesome!
That's my ten cents.
On another note, having come 2nd in the drags I'll be sure to find some deserted straights some time and practice launching. Had never done so before this weekend, too scared to break something. I simply need to remember to add about 5000 rpm, drop the clutch and let the tyres shred. I beat Mr Hirst once, it wasn't the car that was lacking it was my technique. Next time...
Was a hell of a lot of fun though, be sure to include rolling drags again next year!
Spot the finishing cone.
The track time was brilliant too, even if I did decide to keep out of the way of the fast guys and go with the slower group.
That track is AWesome...!
Great as always to catch up with old friends. Too many to list but that's one of the good things of belonging to this Club.
And last but by no means least, thanks to the Nationals aspect of the event, it was great to FINALLY meet a bunch of guys from way down yonder. Jim, Olaf, Simon S, Phill, Chris and Richard to name just a few.
This Club of ours is certainly chokka with fine folk and that's something I'll always be proud to be a part of. Hats off to you all!
Anyhoo, speaking as one of many who has put time in for the sake of this Club, thanks again for organising this lot. Stellar job guys.
And please, announce the next one real soon.
Cheers.

100+ MR2OCNZ runs and counting... When going hard, good rubber's your best protection against unwanted accidents. Buy good tyres!
When you're nearing the end of the drag-strip and you have no 'chute, you may as well keep your foot to the floor... Live life. There ain't no second pass.

Re: MR2 Nationals & MR2ocnz 25th anniversary NOV 23,24 2019
Thanks again to everyone involved in making this happen. I think the combination of being central, enough time to plan, affordable (actual ticket cost), well run, and the ownership of being an MR2 event made it perfect to motivate everyone to come.
It was great to meet a bunch of people from the literal other end of the country. It was also great to see club members looking after each other even though they didn't know each other's names.
