Re: Hawkes Bay to Whakatane run
I might head over from Rotorua to join you all just for the trip back to Rotorua if you can let us know what time you're planning to leave Whakatane?
Hope your heading to Matata, then Manawahe and Matahi Rds to Lake Rotoma? If not you need to change your plan so you don't miss out on some of the best twisties in the BoP!

Re: Hawkes Bay to Whakatane run
Hey thanks guys, Kevin for organizing and the rest of the club members that came along... What an epic couple of days driving indeed. Did the early morning run home through Bennydale just for a few more corners for breakfast. Till next time .

Well, that was a good first run for me. Thanks for everyone who came along. My boys and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Next time I will have to bring my MR2 though, that corolla sucks haha.

Re: Hawkes Bay to Whakatane run
Oh what a weekend!
1700kms traveled! A good 3/4 of that on the backroads with barely any traffic (by Auckland standards anyhow) and innumerous twisties
It would take a team of private investigators to figure out everything that went on during the weekend so I'll report on what I witnessed and can recall only
From Auckland via Cambridge we took some mean backroads courtesy of Charlie and had a blast getting to Taihape.
(left to right) Anthony, me, Isaac, Charlie, Thomas: .
That was however just the beginning as Gentle Annie to Hastings is SOMETHING ELSE! Worth getting down from Auckland just for that road, no kidding .
The next morning we left Hastings via Napier and Wairoa and the inland road for Gisborne. I think about 9 cars left Hastings? And two arrived to Gizzy... so, this is where the private investigators come in...
Anyhow, we regrouped somehow and the following 5 pressed on around East Cape:
(left to right) Anthony, Thomas, Pierre, Gordon and me .
Four cars made it to Whakatane while Anthony had issues with suspension so had to take off home from Opotiki (?) .
In the evening we met Keith and Olaf and a couple more peeps (memory fails me, sorry) at Whakatane for a bbq, then Sunday morning Brandon came over from Rotorua to show us a nice backroad from Whakatane to Rotorua:
(left to right) Thomas, Pierre, me, Brandon: .
Oh what a weekend!
Thanks to everyone who contributed in whichever way!
