Hawkes Bay to Whakatane run
Hey guys(&gals) I have been looking into my first run as a member and as AC.
Here is what I am looking at, (open for discussion)
Labour Weekend 2020.
I'm thinking a 2-dayer.
Gather in Hastings (somewhere) and meet others from the Lower North. The lower north might have to stay the previous night in Hastings depending on departure time.
Set off via expressway and drive to Wairoa for a drinks break. Then off to gisborne for lunch?
After lunch have another stop at Tokomaru Bay, and at Whangaparoa.
And going via Ohope we get to whakatane for the night.
The next day after a good catch up with everyone we can set of through to Rotorua and Taupo.
The hawkes bay guys can split via SH5 and the lower north can go SH1 via Waiouru to fielding.
Now again open for discussion, but if it is on the long weekend it means the whole weekend isn't taken up on a roadie.
The lower north guys could possibly come to Hastings Friday evening, and we all leave Saturday morning.
Let's see who could be keen, or if there is any other ideas.

Sounds like a plan
Boosted cars are like hot women.
A little edgy, every guy wants one,
some guys can't handle them,
and if you throw a little alcohol in them they'll rock your world.

Re: Hawkes Bay to Whakatane run
From Wairoa to Gisborne take the inland road, it's insanely suited to an MR2. Michelle and I did it at pace in the 86 in the wet, it was AWesome! Potenza melting territory, some of the best twisties and scenery I've ever encountered.
I'm keen as I've yet to go around the outside of the cape between Gisborne and Opotiki.
We would need to come down via lake Waikare, Mangakino and Taupo (one of my favourite routes, thanks CJ) then stay in Napier or Hastings for the night, rock around the cape with yas then maybe crash at a mate's, then cruise home the next day, so it'd be a 3 day trip for us. Unsure if it will actually come together for us but we can certainly aim at it. Would be an utterly epic trip for sure.

Re: Hawkes Bay to Whakatane run
Update, we should meet at the Mitre 10 Sports Park. It's right beside the expressway, so easy start on our run. Plus there is heaps of parking for us to line up for a photo-op.

Re: Hawkes Bay to Whakatane run
If we are looking to lunch in Gisborne after stopping in Wairoa then we need to get away from Hastings by 8:30 - 9ish, I don't fancy leaving Wellington at 5am so have booked accommodation in Hastings for Friday night at Frimley Lodge also free cancellation a week prior.
