Manawatu run July 2022

Post by optional »

Hi all,
I know this is early notice but some forward planning is required, due to the intended venue and the fact the School Holidays are in July.
Firstly the date is not yet set so I am wondering whether it is better to have a run during school holidays (9th to 23rd July) or avoid them like the plague, due to traffic considerations etc. Have a look at the plan and let me know which is preferred, asasp. Thanks.
The plan is :
Meeting Feilding Railway station for a run through Halcombe, Kakariki and Marton.
The destination is Paloma Gardens in Fordell. Check it out at www.paloma.co.nz .
The roads we will use are not those preferred by family holidaymakers although some extra traffic, including those of a less sedate inclination, may be expected.

Ok. Before you ask "Gardens? In Winter?" think of this: the gardens are set up for all weather viewing and partners may appreciate something other than motors and passengering. Show the website to your significant other and get her / his reaction. Besides, the surprise, that is not shown anywhere on the website, ( so you can feign surprise when you "discover" it) is a large collection of motorcycles, including some very rare ones. Something for all interests.
There is no cafe at the gardens although there is a covered Picnic area. I am guessing that the expected change in the season will make eating outdoors less attractive and at this stage I have not sussed out an appropriately located cafe but I am looking at this.
Since the collection is open by appointment I will need advise the owners of the date, time and numbers, so please let me know asap.
Thanks
Keith

UPDATE:

DATE : 17TH JULY 2022
TIME : 10;30 A.M.
PLACE : FEILDING RAILWAY STATION.

I am still not decided on the venue for lunch. Possibly Moo-Maa just outside Marton, but that is still not decided. The plan is to arrive at Paloma
Gardens around 1:30. I will arrange with the owners to ensure that the motorcycle collection is open.
Keith

UPDATE 2:
The lunch has been booked for 11:30 at MooMaa on SH1 at Marton. Since we have a bit of time the route to Marton will not be direct. The route to Fordell will be along one of my favorite pieces of road, my preferred route to Whanganui.
See you then.
Keith

I would be interested in this one, would probably head through to Wanganui to visit relatives after the garden visit.

No preference for when.

Cheers
