Obituary - Val MacDonald

Post by Curly »

Val passed away on 28 December at the age of 63 at Dunedin Hospital.

He had been unwell for some time.

Val was a valued member of the club and had been a Life Member for some years.

He was very keen on his cars, and at a local Grasskhana in 2005 he brought his Corvette with him and had a ball.

The funeral will be held at Campbells, Mosgiel, Dunedin at 10.30 on Thursday 3rd January 2013.

I didn't know Val of course but regardless I'm sorry to hear that Pam. Please commute condolences to his family on behalf of the club. I will say this - if Val was made a life member there must have been a jolly good reason - and while I must confess to being unaware of what that is, I will say that he must have been an exceptional character if that were the case. So hats off the the man even if one didn't know him. Here's to a life lived well and not half-hearted.

I guess that Ade would have known him or had contact with him as I believe the Life Membership may have been from the beginning of the Club.

He wasn't actively involved in the Club but I believe, from Val, that he may have been given the Life Member status for his contribution to the Club when it was being set up.

I have sent a card and I will attend the funeral on Thursday.

I have known Val's nephew for years but didnt know they were related until Val's brother passed away about 6 weeks ago at which time I learned that Val had 6 months to live, only to have that life cut short.
