Apologies for not getting a notice out, but WCN had to relocate their server that supports our fair site on Wednesday, and regular service has now been resumed.
However there is sad news. As you will see in the attached note from WCN that funding for the web services is planning to be cut, and so the free hosting we enjoy is going to end in June 2010, unless, fair denziens of the internet, you help to try and stop it. See below, for what you can do to help WCN maintain the absolutely free service they offer nonprofit clubs and organisations such as ourselves.
From WCN:
We're pleased to inform you that WCN is back online now.
Any problems with your websites - please open a support ticket on the WCN
HelpDesk.
re: Funding Issues
First of all - thanks to all who have signed the petition so far.
Last week we sent out a notice about WCN and the removal of funding form
the draft LTCCP. We definitely need your help as the future of WCN, and
all the community websites hosted by it, is at stake here. We only have
funding guaranteed until June 2010 - beyond that we have nothing and thus
WCN may close down. This means you'll have to look for new webhosting at a
price. In addition, sites with .wellington.net.nz as part of the domain
name will also have to purchase a full domain name before the site can be
moved.
There are three ways you can help:
1. First (and most important): Send an email to councillors highlighting
the value of WCN and the service it provides, and requesting they
re-establish WCN funding in the draft LTCCP. You can send the same message
to ALL Councillors if you use [email protected].
2. Second: Sign up to the e-Petition for WCN at:
http://wellington.govt.nz/haveyoursay/e ... details/77
3. Third: Make a submission (by 5pm Monday 18th May) via WCC's online form
at :
http://wellington.govt.nz/haveyoursay/p ... 9ltccp.php
It is also vital that you spread the word about it to your members, and to
*all* your contacts who have ever made use of your website or any other
website on WCN.
Lindsay Shelton has published an article at:
http://wellington.scoop.co.nz
Your comments on the article will be welcome.
We're told that most councillors read wellington.scoop, so comments will
definitely be noticed.
Thanks
regards

Well that was unpleasant!
Seems the WCN server hosting our site and forum disappeared entirely overnight. Yoiks. Thank goodness it's back again.
Downloading a fresh backup of everything right now...
