Rev 2 MR2's with the Gen 2 3SGTE motor (1991/12 - 1993/11) have a different intake manifold and throttle body to the early Gen 2's.

Thanks GD11. :) Yeah, the old style is the setup I have now and want to keep and I am buying the later model :/ Am I looking at an easy task swapping the throttle bodies around at all?

There are 2 different part numbers for the early and late model manifolds but the throttle body should bolt up OK. If not then just swap the manifolds over.

ooooh! Will the ecu and all the sensors from the early gen2 be compatible with the late gen2? Haha I should have been asking this question first sorry.... Any info in this matter will be much appreciate, so those with experience that know I'm missing vital questions, please don't hesitate to share :)

There shouldn't be any issues using the whole late model GEN2 engine with what you have.
When you say you found a GEN2 what did you actually get or looking at getting? All then mechanical parts and sensors will work between engines and so too should the ECU and loom.
If you have just bought the long block, ie block head manifolds and sensors then you should just be able to swap over your early model loom to the new engine and plug the ECU in and go. As long as the replacement engine is good.

Ok this is the engine/set up I have... The Engine I'm getting is good condition but is the later model Gen2, so it is a definite the later model engine will straight bolt up with my setup? Exhaust manifold, Turbo, Sensors,Injector add ons and Ecu etc- and all the unknown bits I missed :) Thanks again for the info.

I see now.

Just remove the engine you have, put it side by side with the other engine and swap over all the bits external bits and put it back in. This is what I did on mine although it was a 3SGE and it was all factory parts. Make sure you get new gaskets for any bits you take off like the throttle body and exhaust manifold. You wouldn't want any leaks and the best and easiest time to do this is with the engine out. Doing oil seals and the cam belt plus water pump and rubber hoses would also be sensible too as these are harder to do with the engine in the car.

YEAH.... Motivation had stooped for awhile with project " Mayhem " on hold, a lot of factors involved but levels are rising again, Slowly :)

In saying this, in the next month I will be getting into the pull of the old Gen 2 out, tidying a few bits in the engine bay.

Hopefully the replacement is ready and here before the end of next month so I can get it all put together with the set up I have and again, tidied up and re installed...

Couldn't hurt asking so " Would anyone in Auckland have an engine hoist / crane thingy I could use for if not free, a low rental charge please? " Will buy if it was say $50, otherwise this is the only engine pull I intend on doing with it so not worth paying $300+ for and having to sell later for the space back...

So, scratch everything being posted so far... Have a new plan of attack with getting my beast back up and running... Well, it's an old plan but has been brought back into play by an awesome guy that a lot of the old time members know from some of the runs... however, it is still a standard gen2 ( My favourite ) :) and yes as of last weekend it is sitting out of the old body and is being dismantled for the parts needed to run his new Gen 4 setup ( Gearbox, Loom and alternator and will have it ready in my shed in under two weeks :)

I will be pulling my engine out soon too but all I can do for the moment till I decide what I'm going to be doing to address the issue of engine lifting I will be just un attaching ( Dismantling ) everything and readying it for that moment... Now, I do have a shed where I can attach chain pullies to the roof but I really want to put safety first...

Yeah!!! Thanks to anyone that offers any help at all and to the ones that don't but take time to read this thread, I hope you get either helpful info or a bit of timed killed :) Cheers
