Are you adding any flexy /expatiation joins on the exhaust ?

some guys can't handle them,
and if you throw a little alcohol in them they'll rock your world.

There will be a flex on the down pipe between the exhaust section that is mounted to the engine and trans. And the section that is mounted to the chassis. Nothing from the manifolds to the turbo for expansion due to limited space. The vehicle doesn't get heavy use so it will last many years regardless we expect.

Tidied up the engine bay removing unnecessary crap. Primered and a few coats of anti chip sealer.
20190419_124500.jpg
Also started the process of relocating the fuel filler to the drivers side engine lid panel. A lot more room this side now and no hot stuff!
20190418_152530.jpg
20190418_152536.jpg
And took my water pipes to get modified to better suit the 3VZ.

Unfortunately that's it for now....

Some updates.... Finished fab of the turbo exhaust. Still needs finishing welds and support brackets. Then down pipe etc. Made the new fuel filler pipe (which will be) coming from the drivers side engine side panel. Also radiator lines heading that side now too. Keeps all that stuff away from the exhaust. And just fits and flows better on that side.

Um so where were we...? Life is getting in the way. But the MR2 finds a way.... I'm struggling to find time here so if you want more detail, content just ask. Meanwhile it's just a teaser...

So my sump plug thread was half striped (the things you find out after the engines in!) Got a new sump, started work on the down pipe. And also a whole page in NZPC magazine. :D :D

Got a new sump that I had to weld a patch on because I didn't want the horrible chunky oil level sensor!
And of course added the turbo return bung, and paint.
Then Murphry showed up and I broke a sump stud that I needed to extract also. Damn well had it with this bloody sump!
20190810_161412.jpg
Anyway, sorted now.
Started running and fabing coolant lines.
Fitted the new steel braided fuel lines and filter. And remote oil filter.
20190830_115433.jpg
(Ignore the mess of wires. Still getting around to that!)
Fabed up the last intercooler pipe, BOV and turbo intake to filter. Soon to be finished welded and powder coated (Candy red of course!)

Functional engine lid vent?
Thoughts?
(Excuse the year worth of dust! )
This is a spare lid.
The soild vent side has already been cut out also.
And it would be painted to match (not left as tacky fake carbon!! )

Interesting fact about air flow on the MR2 engine lid.

It actually flows forwards, not backwards. If you look at the SW20 turbo engine lid the vents face forwards.
Air flows over the roof then down and circulate towards the rear window then air eventually escapes out the back. Air flows from the bottom of the car up through the engine bay. This is why having TOMS style scoops that are not sealed to the engine intake system are detrimental to the cars cooling and aerodynamics. I know none of this is a factor in your SW20 build but the vent here on the AW11 possibly doesn't do anything for what you are trying to do. Could test using little bits of string on engine lid of an AW11 to see where the air flow is actually going on that spot.

The AW lids don't have directional vents IIRC. Could get an NA lid or some other material and laser cut out more/larger vents :?:
