Question.
Do some SW20s come with composite headlight assemblies?
I've just attempted to change a bulb only to find that my 1990 NZ new SW20's lights are sealed beams, meaning that the whole glass unit needs replacement.

Re: Headlight question
It seems that oem were sealed and only replacement housings are semi sealed. Quite a common thing on these cars.

Cheers Phil, so follow up question:
Those of you who have swapped to a composite housing, what would you recommend? Do Toyota do one?

Re: Headlight question
Any normal looking H4 housing will be fine. Heaps of 80s/90s Toyota used these. Vans, Hilux, Starlet.
You can get better rated bulbs from the Narva range but they don't last as long as standard bulbs. Worth it for the better light output though. I run Plus 110 but you can go higher if wanted.

Re: Headlight question
Hella also make a replacement unit. I used 150plus bulbs and they haven't blown just yet. Only get them on a repco sale otherwise they are priced insanely. I looked at xenon upgrades but its not going to be very feasible. Some places do H4 LED bulbs but I don't know about the output or if there is any supporting hardware required.

Re: Headlight question
Go the hella Semi sealed units p/no 1043 (1043H if your at BNT) Can do for $66.85+, According to customers any other semi sealed doesnt throw the light where you want it as well as these. I sell tons of them for older logging trucks.
"Plus 130" hella bulbs p/no XD1260/55UM (Oddly we, BNT, dont have that bulb number loaded so i cant price it right now).
"plus 110" bulbs p/no XD1260/55UPH are $22.18+ as an example.
If thats still not bright enough install relays and fresh wiring and let them have all the power!
