So I bought some seals and a new alternator belt to replace everything on the cam belt side and the distributor. So pretty much a cambelt replacement exercise to fix these issue. Not ideal but I have done it twice before, just need an extra hand to assist.

New alternator belt as my one is old and slips when it gets wet. Also squeaks and that bugs me.

I did a half hearted job on mine when I got it too. I did distributor o ring and valve cover gasket. That stopped all of the oil but I think I will be on borrowed time for the rest of them soon. Good luck. Anything to do with property tends to be time consuming and stressful.

I know it's my oil pump as it has been leaking for a bit. I do hope my internal seal on the distributor isn't leaking. I know I can get a rebuild kit for them but would rather not for one seal. Unless anyone knows the product code and I can get it on it's own.

Yeah the house build has been stressful but looking back, I have learnt so much and have something that I can be proud of. Ok, we didn't build the house but we did a lot of it ourselves together with family. The list is quite large and it's still not quite done but good to be living in it.

That was the plan which was why I wasn't too worried about it at the time. I need a Go Fund Me account. Nah, that's rude and not what these things are for. I'll get there. I have a few GEN4 swaps to help out with and will be doing wiring and bits on them so I'll learn all about it before I do my own. I have the drive train, just no engine and wiring. :|

That's a lot of oil
No cam seals though? I didn't think partial replacements were your style? :P The seals you've got were also the best sellers for S engines when I was in parts.

You should see the parking space in the parking building :!: The MR2 has only been in the garage at the new house for one night.

Haha good spotting. I do actually have 2 cam seals from the old engine that I took off when I gently removed the cam shafts from the head to scrap. They only have 500km on them. I may do them, I may not. That would involve taking a few other things off but seeing as the MR2 is now not running I have a bit more time to do that.

I have a decent sized sink in the garage now, unlike before where I had nothing.

I got distributor seals separately from Toyota so they should be able to do whichever ones you need. I can look for part numbers tonight if you need them or it might be in the first 2-3 pages of my build thread.

I had a quick look at your project. Page 3. Unfortunately there is a 3rd internal shaft seal that gives out. This one looks like the oil pump shaft seal above. You can't buy this from Toyota separately as it's part of the distributor unit.

But you can get this for cheap enough plus shipping.

Update.

So not fuel pump. Just too much oil in the cylinders preventing it from firing properly. Had to crank it for a long time with full throttle to get it going then a big cloud of blue smoke came out the exhaust. It's done the smoke cloud before but not the starting issue. Probably need new spark plugs too.

Started removing parts from the car with Olaf. Found the source of the oil leak which I had suspected. Shaft seal on the oil pump. Took it all apart, took the pulley off and found the shaft has a nice pair of grooves in it from the seal. I guess that's waht 420,000km will do to a steel shaft. If I can't source a good used shaft I'll either buy a new pump rotor set or buy a Speedi Sleeve and install that.

Olaf has asked on Facebook if there are any shafts available. One potential one appears to have a groove in it based on the photo, another might be ok but from a blown bottom end engine which could have a damaged rotor set. Not the best option. I'll see what pricing is for parts on Monday.

For now I have a 1996 NZ New AE101R Corolla Hatch to use. 4AFE power!

Sorting out replacing the fuel filter. Quite sure it's done 262,000km. I have a rusty fuel pipe in the engine bay so I'll be replacing that with one I got from lasersubby. Just taking a break right now.

You haven’t changed the fuel filter in 262k ! Shame on you.

Glad you found oil leak location. Repair will only be a stop gap until the next problem given the condition of engine. Best break that piggy bank open and get another engine soon.

Yes I know. But I've only owned it 11 years and 100,000km out of the 29 years and 262,000km. It's done now.

It's all a stop gap. But any engine I do buy will have at least 200,000km on it. The Caldinas get driven a long way and they are getting older too.

Piggy bank is empty. But I have a house and a large garage because of that. For all the complaining and excuses I'm very grateful for all the help I've had on the house and with my car. This engine has been extremely reliable since I put it in. I've just neglected it for too long.
