Visit to Carteroni
APRIL 2020 RUN
Visit to Carteroni, Mangaweka.
Meeting Palmerston North Square Car Park 10:00 a.m. SUNDAY 25th
For those who want to see how to go about building a supercar replica, here is your chance.
We have been offered the opportunity to have a look at a small workshop near Mangaweka where they make replicas of the Group B Rally supercar the famous LANCIA 037. There is just one catch: the opportunity is over the weekend of ANZAC WEEKEND. ( 25th April ).
Allan, the owner and operator of Carteroni, has made his workshop available to show us how he goes about the production of one these very rare beasts. For those who don't have any idea what I am talking about either look up Carteroni on the web or check out the write up in the latest edition of NZ Classic Car magazine.
If you want to take advantage of the opportunity please let me know ASAP either by PM on the forum or text me on (027) 432 1871.
I am planning for lunch, either before the visit at one of my favorite cafes at Mangaweka but we will need to let them know numbers in advance so I do need to know numbers. We will have to be at the Cafe by 11:30 to beat the lunch time rush. And I do have to advise them of numbers so an early indication would be helpful
I am aware that some of you may already know how to find Carteroni BUT we have been invited as a club so please do not make your own way to Carteroni. If you do not want to travel up with us from Palmerstion North, meet us at Dukes Roadhouse in Mangaweka from 11:30 on. Please also let me know that you are coming, ring or text on 027 364 5549 or 027 432 1871.
THE PLAN.
Meet at Palmerston North Square car park
Depart P.N. Square at 10:00 a.m.
Travel via Napier road to regroup at the edge of town and turn on to Roberts Line.
Pass Toyota N.Z.
Take 2nd exit from Roundabout and turn RIGHT onto Kelvin Grove Road. (Note this is a tight turn. BE CAREFUL! )
Stop at edge of town to regroup, just before 80 km/hr sign.
Turn RIGHT at STOP sign.
Take first LEFT (approx 0.5 km) on to Watershed Road.
Straight ahead through Hiwinui (Reids Line), to turn LEFT on to COLYTON Rd. ( Note this is an acute left and a bit blind, please be careful. )
Turn RIGHT onto Kimbolton Road towards Cheltenham.
Travel to Mangaweka via Waituna West and Vinegar Hill. A short stop for admiring the view at Stormy Point and Vinegar Hill Reserve.
Lunch is booked at Dukes Roadhouse, S.H.1 Mangaweka.
Please let me know if you are joining us,
Keith

A little edgy, every guy wants one,
some guys can't handle them,
and if you throw a little alcohol in them they'll rock your world.

Re: Visit to Carteroni
And you guys heading up from the south, there's a few of ways to get there:
1. Turn off right at the north end of Mangaweka, go down past the campground and across the bridge then turn left into Kawhatau Valley Road. You'll end up at Carteroni.
2. Head into Feilding, get onto Kimbolton Road and head out to Cheltenham, Kimbolton. You'll end up at the turn mentioned above into Kawhatau Valley Road.
3. Stay on SH1 until Ohingaiti. Turn right about 1km north of the pub onto Otara Road. Turn left into Mangamako Road, then left again into Rangiwahia Road. You'll end up at the turn mentioned above into Kawhatau Valley Road.
There you go. Some real good driving/Targa roads in that neck of the woods.
