2022 2nd MR2 Nationals Masterton Oct 22 - 23

Toyota’s new MR2 went on sale in Japan in October 1989 and so its 32 years since it was released..Its also 38 years since the AW11 was released so what better than to have a "Coming of Age Nationals"

OK heres the plan : We will have a weekend like last the Nationals in 2019 and it will be held at a track as close to central NZ as we can get.

Plan is a full on Day some Gymkhana, Drag Racing and a Show and Shine with plenty of time for Meeting others ,hanging and yarns etc.Then an epic Run on Sunday and some Grasskhana if time allows

The MR2 Nationals 2022 will be held at Masterton Motorplex http://www.mastertonmotorplex.co.nz/ on the weekend of 22-23rd October 2022

So we have the Drag strip and the Grass and Pad area at the track end so come and throw your MR2 down the strip and dust off the Garage Queens for the Show and Shine.Get down to the Gym and start buildng up your guns for the wheel changing competition

Theres GymKhana as well and an Epic Run on Sunday

We are also offering old school accomodation as well and camping at the track is allowed if Wanted

Booked time off for this already.

Plan is to leave Christchurch Thursday afternoon, ferry Friday morning. Then drive to Masterton.

Will stay at Copthorne Solway Park, it’s three minutes up the airport road away from the Motorplex.

UPDATE !!!
Well here's the update on the Nationals.

As you know it being held on 22nd and 23rd October at the Masterton Motorplex and Drag Strip

We will have:
Drags
Gymkhana
Show and Shine
Runs
Wheel Changing contest
And a lot more, There's even a National Burnout Competition being held on the Sunday if you want to spectate this and smell rubber.

So below is the Logos for the stickers and Hats and Shirts (thanks Joel) so to get one of these make sure you are there.


Accommodation

We are going old school here and the Drag strip will allow camping at the track there are showers and toilets there so if your game throw your tent and sleeping bag and food in your 2 and come on up and camp with the mob. For those who prefer something more refined there are plenty of Accommodation options but you need to book now as Labour Weekend will be busy.

Costs $75.00 per car for the weekend includes a goodie Bag+ $10.00 per night for camping
If you are coming just for Show and Shine and want a goodie Bag $25.00 plus $10,00 per night camping

Ok Just an update Well stickers and shirts are coming but we only have less than 10 car registered. Accomodation is filling up fast so you need to book in now .I want to try to break our previous record of 67 MR2s in one place at one time..

Organisation is going well and there are lots of things to do and lots of prizes and fun to be had

At the moment though it looks like some of you have forgotten it. We only have 12 registered for this event and whilst ill race all day looks like being a bit boring without any cars there. I also have some sponsors who want to see numbers so they get the best bang for their buck so when i tell them i have 12 registrations itsx hard to get them on board

Well are you going to the Nationals?

Well to be honest Numbers Suck . There are less than 20 of you registered and sponsors are thinking of pulling out

Meanwhile the credit cards taking a hiding on printing and merch etc. Im leaving it open till end july but by the look of it there will be a 20 car nationals meet or ill defer to the Datsun Owners Club

I understand Covid has taken its toll over the last 2 years but if we cant all come together to enjoy our 2s then we have to look at other events. I have spent last 9 months organising these Nationals and its obvious there is no appetite for them so if there are any other ideas please let me know here or PM me >
