Manawatu April Run.

GENTLE ANNIE ATTACK

APRIL 24TH 2022.

Since we have two long weekend in a row, it seems a perfect time to organise a longer sortie. Therefore I am organising a trip through one of my favourite pieces of road : Taihape to Napier. That is the road commonly known as the GENTLE ANNIE.
Some of you may remember traveling this road after an AGM a couple of years ago. That time we covered it from East to West but I feel it is even better the other way. I have done it in the Easterly direction by motorcycle and it is an absolute blast; 120 km of every sort of driving you can imagine, from open rolling country to tight hilly sections, and all sealed. And that's not counting the spectacular scenery! :o :D :D

THE PLAN

Meet at Fielding Railway Station.
Leave Fielding 10:00 am.
Travel via Waituna West and Vinegar Hill to join S.H.1.
Turn right onto S.H. 1 traveling towards Mangaweka.
Stop at Dukes Roadhouse in Mangaweka for coffee.
Travel on to Taihape, stop here for fuel and lunch supplies ( if you don't have any already)
Turn off S.H.1 at Taihape and follow back route to turn onto Gentle Annie.
Stop at Springvale for a picnic lunch, and to admire the scenery and the old suspension bridge.
Continue in an easterly direction to turn on to S.H.50 heading South.
Possible stop in Dannevirke or Woodville for coffee and to get rid of the insane grins. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Let me know if you are a starter for this. If we are stopping at Mangaweka they would appreciate an indication of numbers. The best idea would be to text me (027 432 1871 ) or Sue (027 364 5549 ). That way we have an easily transported head count. See you in a couple of weeks.
Keith

I guess we need a new meeting place now that transmission gully motorway has removed the Plimmerton area for us. There is a small road just off SH58 interchange called Bradey Road that would work for both Hutt and Wellington people but it is sort of hidden unlike the usual spots on the state highways we normally use.
