I'm only doing stuff on it to make it feel better on track days or going over sweet roads like the Rimitakas or windy NZ rural roads,

IMPORTANT-Do your brakes. Replacing fluid is foremost but if yours is like any other neglected MR2s out there the rear calipers will need re-building along with re-surfaced rotors and new pads. Its not expensive but may keep you from going backwards down a bank.

If you are unsure about what you are doing this is one job left to the professionals. Parts are not expensive and will only take an hour or so to complete. Money well spent (ie caliper kits $75, cut rotors $60, pads $60, fluid $20).

Cheers for that, I was looking at getting them machined with some new pads, but I'll make sure I take special attention and not just flog it on as a routine job. Yes I think I do need to re-do the back brakes properly, as under hard brakes my left rear brake locks up before any others, which is a bit strange isn't it? And what kind of pads do you recommend?

Not all all strange. Most of the eralier models have problems with LR sticking calipers. You will probably find one pad worn on the inside and dust boots shreaded.

For your requirments I'd probably just go with OEM pads and parts. They are as good if not better than most and fairly inexpensive. If your a paid up club member you can get decent discounts for some of our Toyota dealerships.

Sorry, my bad, actually meant the right one does it, but the left one then locks up at exactly the same time as the fronts, generally the fronts lock up first on other cars I've driven, but maybe that's just how perfect 2s are. Still, getting the garage it's going into cleared, and as much as I'll miss my 2 for the few months it's away, it'll come out even better then before :D

Not done alot more in my 2, just waiting till the end of the year for my first track day then to take it off the road! I'm always adjusting my to do list, and I'll start adding more to here with photos when it's in the garage getting it all done.

Now, I have a new question!

I have a bit to spend, but not 10s of thousands. This build coming up. I'm not worrying about the power, but I am the weight. I am taking pretty much everything off and out that is not needed for wofs.

So my 2 questions is, how close to 1000kg can I get it, and what should I be taking off?
And how possible is 200kw atw with regular 3sgtes, with pretty much only turbo supporting mods and chipped ecus?

200kw @ wheels possible with ct20b, 18psi or so, exhaust, downpipe and racegas on a gen2 3sgte.

If you want to run pump gas and still get the same numbers you need an aftermarket ecu, new fuel rail, new injectors and pump, intercooler plus the ct20b, exhaust and downpipe.

You can't 'chip' a Toyota ecu. However ATS Racing do ROM tune ecu's that are pre set for different modifications.

Chipped ECU? Its not a nissan, its a toyota, so good luck with that one. You'll either need a piggyback or a full aftermarket ECU if you go beyond what the standard one can do.
200kw atw is possible without opening the engine up, a good condition turbo and decent fuel might be enough. Exhaust would help too.

Over the weekend I went to manfield for a track day, was an absolute blast.

This did completely ruin my brakes, and I am looking at upgrading to gen 2 brakes, as much as they didn't fade, I feel that an upgrade would help a lot. My front suspension has taken a beating, and so I am looking at upgrading to coilovers. As some of you would of noticed on our lower north island run on Sunday, one of my exhaust tips broke off during the run, so that will have to be fixed too! I am finally clearing out the garage that my 2 will call home for a few months to get all my work done to it. Will keep it updated on here, and here's hoping it'll come out as one hell of a track toy!

Got it in the garage!!!!!!! Starting work. I've gone and removed many items from the interior, with more to go. I have to get rid of the sound deadening, the alarm, and figure out what I don't need for a wof, and get rid of it!

You will need to keep the heater as you need a "efferent means to demist the windscreen"
Keeping the alarm is a good idea but that's just my opinion :-)

You need the heater, but you could probably take it out and gut it of all the aircon stuff as well as removing the side/foot vents. If I was going to do that i would probably also remove the door cards and move the window switches to the centre console area. (if you dont like the look of the stripped doors some cheap light fabric could cover it)
I would also think 1000kgs could be a little unrealistic by just removing parts. You would need to have a look at fibreglass/ c/f / other lightweight material replacement panels. Easier to achieve and obviously has been done for track cars, but things like the headlights and window mechanisms are going to hold you back with removing weight from a street car.

You cant remove the door cards without replacing them with something solid to cover the openings. Its instant WOF and scrutineering fail for dangerous edges inside pasenger compartment. Replacement could be something light like coreflute sign board.

Oh ok, wasnt aware of that as I have never tried it nor had ambitions to try it. Sign board would still be lighter than the original cards.

Look at this amazing tint, it "fades from dark to light" so you can use it as a tint strip! I paid $25 for it! Look at the fade! Look! Look! I won't be heading back to super cheap auto with this photo and going ape shit! No way!
